What’s up Homies!
The Spring has finally sprung and what better way to get into the groove than with a Race!
Last week the Okaywego squad took on the Georgina Spring Fling. With participants in both the half marathon and full marathon distances the day was filled with amazing achievements across the board.
Now these achievements did not come without putting in some hard work in the leadup to this race.
Fifteen weeks out the training began. It was a long grind mentally and physically for some. Mental fortitude and resiliency became stronger each and every day as the running shoes were tied and those first few kilometers were knocked out during late night speed workouts and early morning long runs. Recovery became a key element to combat burnout as team members pushed to balance work, training and personal responsibilities. These all made easier by loved ones understanding and supporting the commitment to competition and training.
As race day approached and the training tapered down the conversation shifted from training schedules and recovery to race fits and excitement.
There is no better feeling than putting together a sleek and speedy race kit for your big day! And trust me the squad did not disappoint.

If your eye is keen you may have noticed some alternative footwear choices. The idea was born late one night in fun conversation at a squad dinner and living true to the Okaywego spirit Danielson and I took on the Half Marathon in Crocs and Luna Barefoot Sandals, also known locally as the Air Nazareth 4000’s. Huge shout out to everyone who trained hard and pushed themselves to the limits, but there is nothing like cruising past a large group with over a thousand dollars worth of shoes on their feet in some kicks you’d find at the long weekend campsite!
Notable achievements include a Half Marathon Personal Record for Badgal BriBri and a Full Marathon Debut, Second Place finish from Frankie D.
Here’s to a fun filled day with git and glory, all emotions and a ton of community connection.
Looking forward to seeing you on the next adventure!
